Excited to be participating as a speaker, among a diverse group of colleagues from foundations, investment management, academic, philanthropic, journalism and financial services professionals. I will be providing perspectives on a private wealth panel about the role of foundations, socially responsible investing to address key humanitarian and environmental challenges.

Location: CUNY Graduate Center, New York

October 29: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM Workshop: 1:45-2:45 pm

Private Wealth — Portfolio Construction:
While there is significant interest from private investors in impact, adoption has been slow. Reasons for this often include questions on how to deploy impact investments into an existing portfolio, how foundations and PRIs can be used, as well as how to create an investment policy that incorporates impact. This session will explore different ways in which private investors have tackled these issues.

Panelists:

Andrew Lee, UBS Global Wealth Management, Head of Sustainable and Impact Investing, Americas

Ann McDougall, Dunollie Fund, Co-Founder and CEO

Eric Stephenson, CAIA, Align Impact, Director of Client Services

Samantha Taylor, Reputation Dynamics, President and Founder

Moderator: Anna Snider, Bank of America, Managing Director, Head of Due Diligence, Board Chair, High Water Women

About High Water Women: Since 2013, High Water Women's Investing for Impact Symposium has evolved into an important gathering for investors who want to connect with other investors, advisors, and investment professionals interested in generating positive social impact. High Water Women (HWW) was founded by senior women from the hedge fund and investment communities to connect professionals with high-touch volunteer opportunities. Columbia University: Annual African Economic Forum 2018 - April 7, New York

images-1.jpeg

I am excited to be participating on a panel at Columbia University’s Annual African Economic Forum.  My remarks will primarily focus on the importance of private-public partnerships and approaches to address youth unemployment, mitigate poverty and create a path to economic prosperity.

Saturday, April 7: 3:20 – 4.40 pm

Youth Unemployment: Youth unemployment is one of Africa’s greatest challenges. Unemployment among young people aged 15–24 years old in sub-Saharan Africa has hovered between 12% and 14% since the 2008 global financial crisis. The data does not include youth in vulnerable employment and underemployed in informal sectors, who make up at least 70% of the workforce. Although these statistics may seem daunting, African policymakers, entrepreneurs, and private businesses have been working to mitigate unemployment among African youth in their respective countries by tapping into innovation. This panel will focus on the complexities of unemployment, expand on the roles of actors on the ground who are working to solve this problem, and give exposure to budding programs and innovations that have been successful in alleviating unemployment throughout the continent.

Panelists:

Annie Duflo - Executive Director of Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA)

Mpho Sekwele - Co-Founder, Bantu Hikers

Samantha Taylor - President, Reputation Dynamics

Special Event Feature: Elephant Art Shop:  Original watercolor paintings, cards and prints for sale with proceeds to benefit the endangered African elephant species.

'CHUMA'

“It was destiny. There was a reason why my family and I were here in Africa. We could still be living a tranquil English life in England, never to have known of or been to this place, never to have had these adventures, narrow escapes, gut-wrenching trials or moments of glory.”

Excerpt from Samantha Taylor’s upcoming memoir, Elephants Never Forget

Samantha Taylor is the founder of Reputation Dynamics, which connects and mobilizes corporations, NGOs, academics and influencers to address social, economic and environmental issues around the world. When she was 10 years old, Sam’s family moved to Kenya.  Her passion for Africa, its people, and elephants, in particular, continues to inspire her work and commitment to bring the color and spirit of this vast, untamed continent.
